BT could be returning to the mobile phone market in a bid to boost its profits, as consumers move for fixed line broadband and internet services on to mobile devices. BT are believed to be talking to both T-Mobile and 3 about a joint venture, as all three companies look at the options for their business strategies in Britain.
BT Cellnet, which used to be the company’s mobile operation, was demerged in 2001 following its near collapse and being in debt of around £30bn; it was eventually bought by O2 UK.
Analysts have said that BT’s lack of mobile operations has been worrying shareholders, as phone user’s switch from using fixed line phones to mobile devices to make their calls.
They also added that BT must protect itself against the mobile network operators, who now sell thousands of USB modems, which allow subscribers to gain internet access through the mobile network without the need for a fixed line.
Talks between BT, T-mobile and 3 are in the early stages, with the companies discussing branding, revenue and the costs involved.

I always use my mobile instead of the landline, its easier and the mobile networks give away so many inclusive minutes, its not cost effective to use a landline anymore if you have a good contract.
If it wasn’t for ADSL, I wouldn’t even have a house phone!
