New Sony Ericsson Walkman phone unveiled

Sony Ericsson has unveiled a new device for their Walkman range, the W705. This new device is a slider phone and will be the first Walkman branded device to feature Wi-Fi connectivity.

The Sony Ericsson W705 features a brushed metal front, 2.4 inch display, HSDPA and Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0 and comes with a 4GB Memory Stick Micro card to store your audio and video files on.

In addition to the mentioned features above, the W705 also has a 3.2 megapixel camera with flash and a front mounted VGA camera for voice calls. Dedicated music keys are positioned on the front, so you can play, stop and skip through your music with both camera and volume buttons located on the side.

As you would expect from a Walkman phone, the W705 has a media player with the latest Walkman v3.0 software installed and supports numerous audio and video files; FM radio is also included. One big feature that is missing is a 3.5mm headphone socket, but Sony Ericsson usually include an adapter if you want to use your own headphones.

There is no word on a release date or price for the Sony Ericsson W705, but it is widely expected to surface in the first quarter of 2009.

Sony Ericsson C902: one of the most popular phones in the UK

Sony Ericsson have had some very good sales figures since they released the C902 CyberShot a few months back, and the C902 is now one of the most popular phones in the UK. The C902 is a small and stylish candy bar style phone, with all the features you would expect from Sony Ericsson.

The C902 features 3G with HSDPA support, a 2 inch QVGA display and a 5 megapixel camera with flash and autofocus. The camera is pretty much the same as the one found in the K850i, but when not in use is enclosed behind a protective sliding panel.

Other features include a multimedia player, FM radio, Bluetooth 2.0 connectivity and the usual browsing and personal information functions. The C902 also has 160mb of internal memory and a microSD card slot for expanding memory.

Measuring only 108 x 49 x 10.5mm, the C902 can easily be fitted into a pocket or handbag and also comes in either black or red finishes (depending on the mobile phone network).

All in all, a small and stylish phone with decent features; no wonder it is one of the most popular mobile phones in the UK.

The Sony Ericsson C902 is available now from various mobile phone operators; price depends on the contract, with the sim free version around the £250 mark.

Sony Ericsson set to launch Xperia X1 in September

In a press release issued today, Sony Ericsson announced that the official release date for their flagship Smartphone, the Xperia X1 will be the 30th of September. The initial release will be available to the UK, German and Swedish markets with the rest of Europe and Asia getting the handset by the end of the year.

The X1 will be the first in the new range of Xperia handsets that will be targeted at the high-end of the mobile phone market. The Xperia X1 will feature the Windows Mobile operating system and a 3 inch touchscreen display.

Other features comprise of a slide out QWERTY keyboard, Wi-Fi and HSPDA connectivity, a 3.2 megapixel camera and a microSD card slot for up to 8GB. The device is set to go head to head with the HTC Touch Pro, Blackberry Bold and of course the iPhone 3G in the race to become the best Smartphone.

The Xperia X1 is due out in the UK on the 30th September; no firm prices yet but expect it to be on a range of networks and tariffs.

Sony Ericsson W980 Walkman – Has the added bonus of a phone!

The Sony Ericsson W980 phone is the latest offering of the Walkman branded phones to be released in the UK. The W890 is designed to give users the best available sound from a mobile device, and bundled with the handsfree HPM-77 headphones, the W980 is set to deliver a new height in music playback.

The W980 has a built-in FM transmitter that allows the user to listen to their music on any other device with an FM receiver, be it a home hi-fi system or car stereo. Internal storage is a healthy 8GB and can store up to 8000 songs and the eight band equaliser can be made to your custom listening preferences.

Navigating through your music also got easier, thanks to top mounted music controls that let you play, pause and skip your tracks effortlessly. Other features include a 2.2 inch internal QVGA screen, 3G connectivity with HSDPA support, USB and Bluetooth connections for transmitting data and a 3 megapixel camera.

Sony Ericsson “Life Captured” Competition

Due to the release of Sony Ericsson’s new Cyber-shot phone the C902, Sony have teamed up with Academy Award nominated director Mike Figgis (director of Leaving Las Vegas starring Nicolas Cage and Elizabeth Shue) for a unique film making project called Life Captured.

The competition gives you a chance to produce a day-in-your-life film from your mobile phones pictures. Entrants must use their phones to capture five pictures of their day and choose from four categories; morning, afternoon, evening or 24 hours. The pictures will then be uploaded to the website, where you can see the other entrants’ pictures as well.

The competition is open to 21 countries including Romania, Russia and South Africa and lucky winners will receive the new Sony Ericsson C902 Cyber-shot phone, with five of the best entrants being invited to London to see their film premiered at the Raindance Film Festival in October. The overall winner at the festival will receive a grand prize that is to be announced at the films premier.

The W902 is Sony Ericsson’s newest phone in the hugely popular Walkman mobile phone range. The internal memory is only 25MB but can be upgraded to 8GB through the Memory Stick Micro card slot so you can store up to 8000 of your favourite songs.

The W902 also features a 2.2 inch display and a 5 megapixel camera, which is ideal for taking pictures on the move. The W902 features the same audio system as the W980 which includes, track recognition, mood based playlists, shake control and an eight band graphic equaliser.

This quad-band phone has HSDPA support for high speed 3.5G downloads and all this in a device that only weights 100 grams. The phone will be available in three colours black, wine red and earth green but this may depend on which market and network you are on.

The W902 is bundled with Sony’s HPM-77 headphones so you can have quality music on the move.

The Sony Ericsson W902 is due out in the last quarter of 2008, prices and networks are yet to be confirmed.

The Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot – throw away your digital camera

Sony Ericsson is set to release their first Cyber-shot slider and the most advanced mobile phone camera to date. The C905 has an 8.1 megapixel camera and Xenon flash and delivers the picture quality that rivals a standalone digital camera. The C905’ camera also features face detection, auto-focus and a contrast and image stabilizer.

This is a powerhouse of a phone featuring HSDPA and Wi-Fi for broadband-like internet speed, built in A-GPS for finding your way around and has DLNA support, allowing the phone to be connected wirelessly to other devices.

The Sony Ericsson C905 has 160MB of internal memory and a Memory Stick Micro card slot which can take up to 8GB. The Sony Ericsson website states that a 2GB memory card will come as standard with the headset.

The C905 also has all the features you would expect from a new mobile phone like an audio and video player supporting a range of different formats, USB lead for fast transfer of files and various quick keys for switching to camera mode and for playing audio and video files.

No word on release date or price yet, but expect the C905 to hit the shops sometime in Q4 of this year.

Sony Ericsson has announced that the long awaited Xperia X1 will be available before the end of the year. The US market could see the X1 as early as September with the UK receiving it a short time after.

The Xperia X1 is the first Sony Ericsson phone to have fully integrated Windows Mobile and is set to tackle the iPhone head on in the Smartphone sector. The Xperia features a 3 inch QVGA touchscreen capable of resolutions of up to 800×480 and boasts a unique arc sliding action that slightly tilts the screen and provides better visibility whilst uncovering the full QWERTY keyboard.

The phone has HSDPA mobile broadband and WiFi connectivity allowing the user to get the fastest internet speeds available, wherever they are. The main screen stores up to nine icons on the panel user interface and can be full customised for any preferences or requirements.

As stated above the Xperia X1 has Windows Mobile 6.1 installed which means you can take advantage of Office and Outlook for writing documents and checking your emails, Windows Media Player for playing various music and video formats and Internet Explorer for browsing the web.

Sony Ericsson have also managed to cram in a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, Bluetooth connection, 400MB of internal memory and a microSD card slot that can take up to 8GB capacity.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 is scheduled for release around September time; there is no word on price or which of the networks will be carrying it yet, expect details to follow.
