O2 has announced another strong quarter, thanks mainly to the exclusive Apple iPhone deal here in the UK. The O2 UK division enjoyed a 10.6% increase in annual sales and its parent company, Telefonica Europe also reported a rise in sales by 5.9% taking its total to €14.3 billion (around £12.7 billion).
Telefonica Europe stated that even though the UK had been experiencing a recession over the last quarter, O2 UK’s rose by 10.4% compared to the same quarter last year. Chairman of the Telefonica group, Matthew Key said that O2 UK’s performance was partly to do with the exclusive iPhone deal, which has seen sales topping a million units so far.
He also added that O2 UK had added nearly 500,000 mobile and fixed line customers during the last three months. O2’s total customer base is now approaching 22 million, including the success of Tesco mobile, which uses the O2 UK network.
A statement released by Telefonica Europe said: “This great performance in the UK was fuelled by four key areas, including the fact that we were number one in customer satisfaction and the success of our products at the top end of the market, including BlackBerry and iPhone.”
I definitely think that the iPhone helped 02 out in their sales
