First touchscreen N-series phone revealed – the Nokia N97

Nokia has announced the first N-series mobile phone with a touchsceen display, the N97. Powered by the latest version of the Symbian S60 operating system, the Nokia N97 is sure to nestle in nicely to the high-end Smartphone market.

The Nokia N97 has quad-band GSM and tri-band HSDPA for international roaming and boasts a slide and tilt mechanism to reveal a full QWERTY keyboard (similar to the HTC TyTN II). Other features include a huge 3.5 inch touchscreen display, built-in Wi-Fi and GPS, a 5 megapixel camera and a massive 32GB of internal memory.

In addition to the features above, the Nokia N97 also boasts Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone socket, TV-out, FM radio and a multimedia player capable of playing various audio and video formats.

The Nokia N97 dimensions are pretty close to the iPhone 3G (at 117.2 x 55.3), but is a tad thicker due to its QWERTY keyboard; it also weights 20 grams more at 150 grams.

The Nokia N97 has been pencilled in for a Q2 2009 release, there is no news on price yet, but expect most of the networks to offer it on their contracts.
