Recent figures released show an increase in popularity in digital radio with more and more people buying DAB radios and more and more people choosing to listen to it through their mobile phones. According to a report from Radio Joint Audience Research Ltd. (RAJAR) 46 million people listened to the radio in the final quarter of 2009, which is up half a million on same period of the year before. RAJAR also found that 14 per cent tuned in via a digital platform, with DAB radio the digital medium of choice.
The report’s findings show that more young people than before aged over 15 are tuning in with many using their mobile phones to do so, they found a 13 per cent increase among those over 25. One third of young people asked said they use their mobile phones for radio listening.
