Nokia has announced a new version of its hugely popular 5800 touchscreen device with added navigation options. The aptly named Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is basically the same as the 5800 XpressMusic handset, but with a lifetime subscription to Nokia’s navigation licenses and a car mounting kit.
The Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition is a quad-band device and features a large 3.2 inch touchscreen display, both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and of course GPS navigation.
All of the usual features are still included such as handwriting recognition, accelerometer and microSD card slot (an 8GB card will come bundled in), as well as a decent multimedia player, TV-out connection and a 3.5mm headphone socket.
Although the 5800 Navigation Edition is nearly exactly the same as the 5800 XpressMusic device, it is bound to appeal to people who want a mobile phone and GPS in one package, and the inclusion of Nokia’s Drive and Walk navigation licences is a huge bonus.
The 5800 Navigation Edition is due for release sometime in Q3 of 2009; no pricing is available at the moment but some sources state that it should be around the €285 mark before tax and subsidy.
