Residents loose broadband service as copper cables are stolen

Around 2000 BT Broadband UK customers in Farningham, Kent have had their connections severed after 6 cables were cut in five places on Wednesday after thieves stole the copper cable. This is the second time an incident has happened in Farningham Last September they were also targeted by thieves who stole the copper cable.

Residents are said to be angry after been targeted again, resident Tom Greenleaf said. “Everyone in the local area is very angry about this, especially as it is the second time in the last year people’s lives depend on having internet connection so it is making everyone’s lives very difficult. I often bring work home and I can’t if there is no internet connection.”

BT engineers are working round the clock to try and restore the connection as soon as possible however it is a complex repair, a BT spokesman said, “Nearly two miles (3km) of cabling had to be replaced. It is a very complex and time consuming repair job, we are doing all we can to restore services as quickly as possible. Up to 2,000 customers were affected and services have now been restored for nearly half of them.”

Some people are finding their daily lives disrupted with the lack of internet connection, some are lucky enough to be able to connect to a computer or laptop via mobile broadband however it’s not that convenient.
