Samsung has unveiled its new ultra-rugged candy bar styled mobile phone, specially designed for outdoor activities. The device is IP57 certified, which means it is dust proof and waterproof and can be immersed in up to a meter of water for 30 minutes.
Being a rugged device, the specs aren’t much to look at, but you do get the security of a device that can stand up to whatever you put it through. The Samsung B2100 is quad-band and features a 1.8 inch TFT display, MP3 player with FM radio, built-in flashlight and a basic 1.3 megapixel camera.
The B2100 is a compact device, measuring just 113 x 48.9 x 17.4mm and weighs 102 grams, which is handy when you’re out and about. The battery power is also quite impressive, boasting 600 hours (25 days) of standby time and up to 9 hours of talk time. USB and Bluetooth connections are also included for transferring media and data files.
The Samsung B2100 Xplorer is due for release in April and will be available in most European countries; there is no information on price or availability yet.

This won’t be a big seller. I can remember SE doing a rugged phone years ago, and it was bit of a flop.

It was just an Ericsson not a Sony Ericsson, and it was the R310. They weren’t that big over here but sold well in Hong Kong and hence a few been listed on eBay
