Sony Ericsson Idou – Sony’s new iPhone rival

Sony Ericsson this week announced a new mobile phone to directly rival the iPhone. Called the Idou, this new device is the most powerful mobile phone Sony Ericsoon has ever made, and it’s due to hit the shelf’s in the second half of this year.

The Sony Ericsson Idou boasts a huge 3.5 inch touchscreen display and is powered by the latest Symbian operating system. The device also features Wi-Fi, 3G HSDPA and Bluetooth connectivity as well as a microSD card slot and built-in GPS receiver.

Sony Ericsson has also upped the bar when it come to the camera, with the Idou sporting a huge 12.1 megapixel camera with xenon flash, which is protected by a sliding cover; a secondary VGA camera is also mounted on the front for video calls.

The Sony Ericsson Idou is a full multimedia phone and features the same music player as the Walkman branded handsets and the capability of playing various video files on its 16:9 ratio screen.

The Idou measures 111 x 54 x 15mm, which is a little bit smaller than the iPhone even though they both have the same size touchscreen. The Sony Ericsson Idou is due to be released in the second half of this year and is set to be a formidable contender to take the iPhone’s crown; there is no word on price or network availability yet.
