Vodafone, a provider of mobile broadband in the UK, has confirmed that it is the first network operator to offer the portable Samsung NC10 Netbook with built-in mobile broadband connectivity. The offer is available on both Vodafone’s 24-month contract for £25 per month with 1GB of data, and the 24-month contract for £30 per month with 3GB of data. The Samsung NC10 Netbook has installed mobile broadband software and a Vodafone SIM.
Virgin Media, an Internet service provider in the UK, celebrates the completion of its succeeding generation network installation this July. This means that its network capacity has tripled to offer ultra-fast speeds of up to 50Mb to over 12 million homes across the UK. This was made possible after 18 months of network upgrading. The provider has announced a new pricing structure for its 50Mb service to mark the occasion.
According to reports from press source Telecom Paper, T-Mobile has put a limit on the number of new connections that can be made for the rest of the year through Phones 4U and Carphone Warehouse. It has been reported that staff in Phones 4U stores across the UK have been told to switch their sales focus away from the T-Mobile products, as staff have exceeded their targets for the mobile broadband provider.
In other news, European Commissioner Viviane Reding has strongly hinted that she will remain for a third term in her post. Reding is the influential telecoms executive responsible for the enforcement of lower data charges across the EU. At present, she is believed to be pushing for the expedition of the transition to digital TV long before the official digital switchover date, as well as the loosening of the spectrum for mobile broadband use.
