There are quite a lot of new phones out at the moment, as well as hundreds of mobile phone deals, so there is no reason not to find a phone that fits your needs. One of the newer phones out at the moment is the Nokia x5 and its quite an unusual, phone with a design that sets it apart from other handsets, it s an almost square smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and not to be confused with the other X5 model that Nokia are shipping to China.
As unusual as the design is, it’s not the first time we have seen this shape concept, last year’s Nokia 7705 Twist is also a similar shape, size and specification but the main difference is that the X5 s a more conventional slider rather than a rotator. Nokia aren’t the only manufacturer to launch similar looking devices, s a more conventional slider rather than a rotator also follow in the style charts however this particular style has only really been seen in the US.
The handset itself measures 74 x 66 x 17mm, and is nearly as wide as it is tall, as well as been wider than most other mobile handsets out at the moment. It does offer a 2.36″ 320 x 240 pixel non-touch display mounted in landscape (wide) mode, which is actually more useful for web browsing than the standard portrait (tall) orientation. Because of its width the QWERTY keyboard is also larger and easier to use.
It’s easy to see that Nokia have aimed the X5 at younger buyers, it supports most main media formats and has an FM radio and 3.5mm audio connector, plus a dedicated music key as well as a “spin the phone” control to select a random music track. It also supports social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter which is a must for many younger people. The X5 also has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, video recording with 640 x 480 pixels at 15 frames per second, it also has WiFi connection and 3G data, plus support for HSDPA and HSUPA downloads and uploads.
The Nokia X5 will be released in Q3 for around a reasonable £190.
