Useful gadget for festival goers

Lost in the middle of big crowds at a festival, can’t find your mates anywhere and you can’t call them because the battery has died on your mobile, uh oh! That was a major problem faced by many attending festivals, but fear not as Orange have created wellies that recharge your handset as you walk, run or dance around.

These special boots cleverly convert heat created by your feet into an electrical current using a unique ‘power generating sole’. These super wellies have been developed with help from renewable energy experts GotWind. Orange will be showcasing them at this year’s Glastonbury Festival, which it sponsors, later this month.

It takes twelve hours of stomping, dancing and walking around to generate enough power from the Orange Power Wellies to power a mobile for one hour however they do recommend visiting a dance tent and bopping away for a few hours to get more energy, as the hotter the feet the more power generated.

Dave Pain, managing director at GotWind, said: “Wellies are now the staple festival footwear and the Orange Power Wellies not only keep you dry but they also provide a crucial eco-electricity source.”

Andrew Pearcey, head of sponsorship at Orange UK, said: “Orange remains loyal to the green ethos of the Glastonbury Festival and are committed to researching exciting new energy sources that can be used on site to ensure people can stay in touch with their nearest and dearest.

“The Orange Power Wellies use clean and renewable energy to create valuable electricity, ensuring festival-goers can text and phone their mates for the duration of the weekend.”
